My husband chopped down a hollow tree on our property a couple of years ago. I asked him to cut the trunk into sections so I could use them as planters in the garden.
At one time, I gave our resident bunnies sweet little names like Hush and Whisper. I have named their descendants Pillage, Plunder and Thug. Grrr. I wonder what Beatrix Potter would make of it.
I think Beatrix Potter added Mr. McGregor to her stories as a touch of reality. She was in fact a farmer herself and kept her farm running with a very practical and knowing hand. And speaking of the bunnies, your oldest brother is doing non-stop warfare with the cute little bunnies around here. I have witnessed numerous times this summer the fraternization of the wild bunnies and our resident ducks and thought to myself how cute they all are together on the lawn basking in the sunshine,then out of the blue your brother explodes from the house with his pellet gun to blast those wascally wabbits because they have decimated his veggie garden.
ReplyDeleteYour brother has discovered we now have not only rabbits and moles in the veggie patch, but deer are leaping over the fence and eating the squash. Poor Jim. Peter rabbit would be happy to know the bunnies are winning this war and probably enjoying lovely fresh gourmet salads in their hidey-holes. Hidey holes as cozy and appealing as your lovely planters. I think the names you've given the new generation of rabbits is very appropriate !
We need a permit to use pellet guns in the suburbs so my husband stalks them through the back garden with a BB gun. Kind of a Pavlov's dog deterrent. My neighbor says (good-naturedly) that we are just chasing them into her garden.
DeleteThe planters are beautiful, and the blue flowers a perfect contrast to the organic material. Thug looks perfectly harmless!
ReplyDeleteDon't be fooled Dewena! It is just a disguise. The other photos I took show him looking over his shoulder to see if we are watching, and then thumbing his nose at the camera before gobbling up the nemesia.
DeleteDon't kid yourself...B. Potter would have had her farm manager trap the little buggers. Like I said in one of my blog posts...the only people who think ground hogs are cute live off side walks. Country dwellers know how destructive and dangerous they are.
