Tree Shadow

As each year passes the favored river birch in the front garden fades until it is little more than a shadow of its former self. Alas, it won't be long now until it passes altogether and will need to be cut down. Meanwhile the roots, struggling for sustenance, have been sucking the life out of our lawn. Our attempts to reseed have gone astray. Still, we have the loveliness of shade and shadow to enjoy until the fatal day.

  1. Looks like a painting, reads like a poem, thank-you.

In the book Small Graces, Kent Nerburn writes, 'to make the acquaintance of a tree is to gain the counsel of a wise and compassionate friend'.
I think that's why I miss my Red Maple so much! It was my friend.

  2. It is a sad day when a tree comes to the end of its life - especially when it has given us such pleasure.

  3. I agree with Janet, the picture looks like a painting, but also tells a story of it's own.

  4. Oh that's sad. There truly is a time to everything, isn't there?

And, no gators in our little lake that I know about! We've been told that any babies spotted are immediately relocated.
